Works Left on Mass Transit

"Six Cents None the Richer" is a continuing series of paintings that exemplifies my working strickly in found materials. They are also part of an on-going social experiment concerning the "value" of art, which centers around my leaving the painting in a public place for someone to discover and possibly choose to keep.

So far I have left 7 on NYC public trains and about Central Park. I hope to continue this series and watch it evolve over time as I run out of materials and incororate new ones, with the only constant being the affixed Nickle and Penny.

They all have the following paragraph attached to the back along with my signature in pen. Found one recently? Contact me with your story...

Art - The product of human
creativity; The creation of
a beautiful or significant thing.

All of the materials of which this
piece of art is made, were discarded by
someone else as no longer having enough
value to warrant their continued use.
Paint can lid, paint, thread, bottle caps,
beads, glass and paper. By some standards
the only thing that has any value is the
currency I affixed (which I'd say is
also pretty useless in its present state).

I turned them into art and left it
for you to find.

You can choose to keep it, enjoy it, and
tell others about it and about my art
(thereby possibly increasing it's so called
"value"), or leave it as trash for someone
else to find. Either way has no consequence
to me at this moment. I only care that you
are experiencing it.
